A landmark 1,300-page report on Australia's intelligence system will lead to the implementation of a new electronic surveillance Act.
Up to 186 out of 190 recommendations made by former intelligence chief Dennis Richardson in his report have been adopted by the Morrison Goverment including a new framework for ASIO to ensure relevant ministers have more accountability for overseas operations.
The main reform stemming from the review will be the establishment of modernised electronic surveillance laws to govern mobile and internet intelligence gathering, with the existing Act now considered outdated.
