News Corp Australia has fronted the Senate Media Inquiry refuting Kevin Rudd's assertions there is a monopoly in Australian news media.
Executive Chairman Michael Miller said diversity was "not just about ownership", but rather "the diversity of views, diversity of sources," and diversity in the way people access news and information.
"It is simply a fact we are living in the most diverse news media marketplace in Australian history and to deny that is to turn a blind eye to the modern world," he said.
"On any given day, you'll hear people on the ABC highly critical of views on News Corp platforms and those people will fire right back. This is not democracy failing, this is democracy working."
Mr Miller pointed to data on the top 10 biggest news sites in Australia, revealing News Corp Australia only occupied one spot.
"The majority of online news consumers are choosing to use between four and five different sites... those who chant the monopoly line ignore this," he said.
"If the sloganeering had any truth, the governments across the country would be the ones the editors decided were best... the reverse is true.
"Australia has nine federal, state, and territory governments; four are Coalition, five are ALP. The latest Newspoll has federal ALP and Coalition sitting at 50 per cent each. Australians make up their own minds."
