Growing squash is actually fairly simple. You can get a gigantic harvest of wonderful squash in just under three months. I'll show you how to begin your plants from seed and how to grow them up into bountiful garden producers. I will cover everything from soil requirements, seed sowing methods, plant care, fertilization, harvesting, and common pests. I hope that the frustration caused by the squash vine borer moth doesn't stop you from getting your plants off on a good footing early in the season, you will see that you can still get a harvest even when you are experiencing a heavy pest pressure.

Black Gumbo shares our suburban, backyard, sustainable gardening efforts. We work a small-scale, typical Zone 9a garden and raised beds, the kind of gardening accessible to all. We tend to take the slice of life approach and hope you will enjoy our family, our dog, our cooking, our adventures, and occasionally some commentary and advice.
