Poor performance indicates need for major surgery: PCB chief
Mohsin Naqvi promises to revamp cricket team and "give a chance to the outside talent"
After the Green Shirts' embarrassing defeat against India on Sunday in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said the team require a "major surgery."

After losing to the United States in their opening game last week, Pakistan came face to face with archrivals India in their second World Cup match at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in which they suffered a humiliating loss due to poor batting performance.

Speaking with journalists after the match, Naqvi said the "defeat against India was disappointing in every sense".

The PCB chief added he "knows what is going on in the team and what were the reasons for losing".

"It seemed that a minor surgery would work but after this bad performance, I’m now sure that a major surgery is required. The nation will soon see a major overhaul."

The chairman further said that their biggest challenge is to improve the team's performance as it is currently at the lowest level.

Commenting about the upcoming events, Naqvi said the board will have to prepare a team for the Champions Trophy 2025. "The time has come to give a chance to the outside talent," he asserted.

"We have to make the Pakistani cricket team one of the best in the world. The nation does not expect such a disappointing performance from the cricket team," said Naqvi.
