We'll look at the factors that affect the rate of dissolving. These are size of the pieces that we're dissolving, stirring or agitation, and temperature. The smaller the size of the pieces, the faster the dissolving process. That is because surface area increases as the pieces get smaller. More surface area allows the solute inside the pieces to contact solvent on the outside. Stirring or agitation allows fresh solvent to contact the solute. And increasing the temperature increases the kinetic energy of the solvent particles, so they move faster, and collide with the solute more often and with more force. It's also important to note that temperature affects both the solubility and the rate of dissolving.
