Every company is marketing new items that we must have so we spend more money on them. This happens everywhere, not just with tools and trucks. Having switched from Ford to GMC products, I have found the GM MultiPro Tailgate to be the most flawed POS item on a truck in a very, very long time.
If you haul gravel or dirt, that will pile up inside the tailgate and do damage. I haul a lot of tree limbs and sugar beats. The sugar beats get into the tailgate and smell really bad. The pine needles get everywhere and stop the components from working as they should.
Add into the fact that after you wash the truck, the tailgate is instantly dirty as the small wind from the road pushes out all the dirty water that collects between the MultiPro tailgate areas.
Engineers have to be proud that they designed a tailgate that will dent itself if you open it with any hitch in the rear receiver. Hey Engineers, these are trucks, try not to forget that again.
More plastic in our work trucks is not what we need! Make the people who want it pay for it and stop forcing it down our throats because we want a level of truck higher than the pro model.
