Did you know Emperor Palpatine’s name is never mentioned in the original trilogy?
In the Episode Four, Five and Six films he is only referred to as “the Emperor.” Palpatine was first named in the prologue of Alan Dean Foster’s novelization of A New Hope, which was released before the films in 1976.
The name was not used in film until the prequel trilogy; however, novels, comics, games and other expanded universe content referred to Emperor Palpatine years before Episodes One, Two and Three.
His first name, Sheev, was not disclosed until 2014 in the canon novel Tarkin. According to reports, George Lucas came up with the Emperor’s first name for the Star Wars: Underworld TV show that was never filmed due to budget constraints.
