Resveratrol, a plant-based compound found in red grapes and peanuts, exerts beneficial effects on the human brain. Clinical trials have unearthed evidence that is suggestive of the possibility that amyloid-beta build-up in the brain may be being attenuated, as well as an improvement in cognitive function in people with Alzheimer's disease. One of the mechanisms associated with resveratrol's actions is the activation of autophagy, a cellular defense program that targets old, damaged proteins for destruction and recycling. In this clip, Dr. David Sinclair and Dr. Rhonda Patrick discuss the brain health benefits associated with resveratrol.
