His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I is the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, and Elect of God. Ras Tafari Makonnen received these titles upon becoming Emperor of the Ethiopian Empire on November 2nd, 1930.
At a time when nearly all indigenous African kingdoms had been subjugated by Europe, the new Emperor would now be viewed by millions of people all over the world as a universal symbol of African pride and sovereignty.
