So, there's this lady named Ruth Wakefield who started the whole chocolate chip cookie thing back in the 1930s. So, Ruth and her husband Kenneth were the owners of the Toll House Inn, a pretty popular restaurant in Whitman, Massachusetts. Ruth was a dessert queen at the Toll House Inn, and everyone loved her chocolate cookies. So, the story goes that back in 1937, Ruth was making her famous Butter Drop Do cookies and realized she was fresh out of baker's chocolate. She was like, "I gotta save this recipe!" Determined to salvage her recipe, she decided to use a semisweet chocolate bar from Nestle instead, thinking it would melt and spread throughout the dough. However, the chocolate chips retained their shape, creating the first-ever chocolate chip cookies. Did you know that chocolate chip cookies were actually created by accident? It's crazy, but it totally changed the baking game. Ruth Wakefield's cookies were a total hit with her customers and everyone loved them! So, as more people wanted her cookies, Ruth made a brilliant business move by contacting Nestle, the manufacturer of the chocolate bar she used in her recipe.
