*A quick note on subarachnoid hemorrhages: I mentioned that the subarachnoid space is the space between the brain and the skull. While this is true, I just wanted to clarify that it’s a little more complicated than that. There are three layers of protective brain coverings that live in this space called meninges (the dura mater, arachnoid mater, and pia mater). The subarachnoid space lies between two of those coverings (the arachnoid mater and pia mater) and this is also where a subarachnoid hemorrhage occurs.
