In this excerpt from an interview with professor Jonathan Wilson, American theologian Stanley Hauerwas discusses the possibility of non-violence or pacifism in situations which might seem to demand violence. He admits it is hard for him as a North American to give advice to those in violent or war-torn contexts. However, he does offer as a general principle that non-violence involves being articulate and imaginative in arriving at alternative frameworks for justice, where it is so often assumed that injustice or violence are the only options.
