Toyota's HyRyder isn't as sensible and as appealing as you might have imagined. There are three reasons why.
First, the boot space. This is a great companion for long journeys but the boot space is decent at best. The practicality of it is reduced when you use a strong hybrid variant because of the battery pack there. But it's really minimising the practicality when you up for the CNG variant as the tank takes up a lot of the space, and keeps you from using the split seats to increase the luggage space on offer.
Second, the backseat compromise. The headroom isn't all that much and that will be an issue for taller occupants especially when opting for the variants with the panoramic sunroof. Also the cabin isn't all that wide, so it's best used as a four-seater.
Third, the lack of excitement. The HyRyder has a great chassis and suspension which makes it fun to drive but the engines are strictly sensible. Its rivals offer far more powerful and exciting engines. Also the cabin is loaded with equipment but the design is old school
