Sleep deprivation and fragmentation may contribute to the development of Nightmare Disorder. Nightmares are a type of dream that wakes up the person having the nightmare. They are fairly common and people usually remember the details of a nightmare when awakened by it. Nightmares occur during REM sleep. They are more common in women than in men, and more common in children than adolescents. NREM Sleep Arousal Disorder is a distinct disorder and is associated with slow orientation upon waking up.
