Interior designer Amanda Lindroth says she arrived in the Bahamas about 30 years ago and never left. Take a tour of her home, Hope Hill, and you’ll know why.
Lindroth bought the house — designed by Henry Melich — about 13 years ago. But despite its “incredibly good bones,” the home was built at a time when there weren’t great builders or great materials in the area. So, Lindroth gut renovated the home to take it “back to the bones.” Drawing inspiration from other Caribbean homes, including Good Hope Plantation in Jamaica and Oscar de la Renta’s home in Punta Cana, she brought in coralina stone walls, wide-planked dark floors, and added layers and textures of houses before.
Now, Lindroth gets to entertain, which she says is one of the joys of living in the islands. And oh, to be looked after by Amanda Lindroth at Hope Hill. Guests feel an immediate sense of wonder, happiness, air and breeze upon entering the home littered in her signature rattan and wicker. The good food, music, company and crisply made beds are just the cherry on top of your Rum Dum!
