Fire Friday!
Couple of pro tips learned from Campfire Co-op Demo Days 2024 …slightly adapted.
Duct tape makes for some decent fire starter …but it also holds the filings from ferro rods and fatwood shavings very well (especially if you have a slight breeze). I took a pice of duct tape and wrapped one end to a stick and then created my tinder bundle on the sticky side. @maxlvledc taught me to hold the tip of the blade -so it holds the tinder. By pulling the ferro rod along the spine of the blade, the sparks drop down into the tinder pile. …make aiming the spark way easier. Once I have the flame started, I simply pick up the stick and place it in my log cabin fire lay and simply add more kindling. In this example, I think I make the duct take slightly too long, but it still worked perfectly!
Practice your skill set.
In times of emergency or high emotions, we typically don’t rise to the occasion, but we do fall back on our training.
Have fun training. I’ll be making s’mores tonight with a bunch of teenagers…yup, I’ll use this method again.
Do you keep #ducttape in your edc or fire 🔥 kit?
