Microsoft Excel Tutorial: How to Map Data in Excel Using Microsoft MapPoint | Geographic Data.
Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! In this episode, we will be discussing how to map data in Excel using Microsoft MapPoint. Many times, we have data in Excel that has a geographic component, such as postal codes, zip codes, latitude, longitude, or even street addresses. If you have this type of data, you may want to visualize it on a map. That's where Microsoft MapPoint comes in.
MapPoint is a program that allows you to import data from Excel and plot it on a map. It is available for the US, Canada, and Europe, so if you are in one of these regions, you are in luck! In this video, we will be using a database of Chipotle restaurants in the US that includes latitude and longitude information. However, you can use this same process with any type of data that has a geographic component.
Once you have your data imported into MapPoint, you can choose how you want to display it on the map. You can choose from various symbols, such as a thumbtack or a circle, and select different colors to represent your data. In this example, we will be using a small blue circle to represent the Chipotle restaurants. As you zoom in on the map, you can see the exact locations of the restaurants, even down to the street level. This is a great tool for visualizing the distribution of your data and identifying hotspots.
Whether you are looking to analyze customer data, plan advertising strategies, or simply want to see where your data is located, Microsoft MapPoint is a powerful tool for mapping data in Excel.
