In the last episode you watched us make our way up Clohesy Lake Trail, this time around myself in the new to me Nissan Titan and Rove and Reverie in her Jeep Wrangler JK with 37 inch tires work our way back down. Eventually we end up at a perfect campsite to set up shop, which was easy with the Symmetry trailer. Plenty of flat ground and views for miles. And the best part is we are right next to an off roading trail. We take a little time to enjoy a gourmet breakfast, at least some of us did, and take in some of the surroundings before packing up and pointing the Jeep uphill once again. This next trail is called Lost Canyon and as you will see it is absolutely stunning. Unfortunately since we were in a hurry to make it to the top before sundown, we were not able to film a lot of the ascent. But you will be treated to views of large lakes off in the distance, cascading cliffs and old mining cabins dotted along the way. The trail does end up at about 13,000 feet, while it is not difficult, you will need to take care. There are huge ruts that will take down most vehicles, large boulders and you are on a steep grade for the last few miles, so laying a rig over on its side here will mean a rather turbulent ride all the way back to the bottom. With that warning aside, you'll experience the best of what Colorado has to offer. As long as you have some experience, most adequate 4x4s will be able to make it to the top. A Tacoma, 4runner, Xterra, Jeeps, most will have what it takes, but 4 Low will certainly help out. Once near the top there are plenty of offshoots, many of which dead end at sheer drop offs, but have incredible vistas. There are two summits, this video is only of the first, but it is more than enough. You'll know you're there when you see the weather station. You are basically on a pinnacle surrounded by valleys and mountain ranges. You can tell from the drone shots that I am not joking when I say this place is rather epic. We did get to the summit just in time to watch one of the best sunsets I have ever seen. We were also lucky enough to be able to listen to a pack of coyotes sit down to what I can only assume was an unfortunate dinner for something. Right after the last waves of light faded away, we were gifted an absolute stunner of a lightning show. It was a nonstop strobe light event highlighting all of our surroundings. It is trips like these that grab your desire to head back out and explore once again.
