On this week's Monday Magic, I'm looking at the beautiful plant - cornus, also known as dogwood. Now, this isn't flowering cornus, but the vibrant dogwoods grown for their stem colours. These are great winter plants, bringing fiery red, yellow and orange into the garden in the deep winter months.
Now that warm, wet weather has arrived, the garden is starting to appear a little springlike. On the dogwood, buds appearing and this means that the time for pruning cornus has arrived.
It might seem drastic to lose this colour and fresh new growth, but it's essential if dogwood stems are to stay zingy and fresh for next year.
