Mike calls it Red Snapper candy. If the water had not been too rough to go out first thing in the morning we may not have caught this keeper because we would have been fishing with cut bait. Being forced to go shark fishing instead of further off shore for snapper turned out to be a blessing in disguise when we started catching the perfect sized live bait for Red Snapper.
While the sun continued to rise the waves began to subside allowing us to eventually make another attempt to go seven miles off shore. We were able to anchor right away on the the secret ledge that holds HUGE fish. It wasn't long afterward that I landed the BIG red featured in this video.
This is the first of three fishing trips during the 2019 snapper season on the Atlantic coast of Florida.

Using a live Atlantic Croaker for bait turned out to be the key to catching the GIANT snapper featured in this video. We were hooking the Croakers just in front of the bottom fin on a 7/0 sized hook. Mike said that we were really lucky to have caught 6 of these baits that were just the right size to use for Red Snapper.
In the title I wrote "Unjustly Fined" because when I returned to my car after a really tough morning of snapper fishing there was a $30 parking ticket on my windshield. The specific area I was parked in did not have any "NO PARKING" signs. I took some time to drive around and look at some other vehicles that were parked along the wayside of the main lot and they were ticketed as well. In my opinion we were all unjustly ticketed, an easy target for the city to collect easy money on a very SPECIAL DAY for Red Snapper fisherman. It was a very bitter sweet moment for me when I pulled that small yellow piece of paper off of my windshield. Honestly, I had assumed when I parked there that it was okay because there were not any "no parking" signs. I also had assumed that the city wouldn't be writing parking tickets in an area that didn't have enough parking spaces to accommodate the large amount of fisherman that would be launching boats to go fishing in that area. A good friend off mine called this unjust act by the city extortion.
The following day of Red Snapper season I had to arrive to the boat dock where Mike was picking me up fifteen minutes early because I had to park a half mile away in order to not get another ticket.
