Hello everyone and welcome to ForB's English lesson video. My name's Richard and today we are taking a look at this expression, "drive a hard bargain". Can you guess the meaning? Alright.
Let's take a look at an example conversation and you try to guess the meaning. A says, "I'll give you these shoes for a discount price of $60." B says, "Oh, that's too high." A says, "OK. How about $55?" B says, "I can pay 50." A says, "Oh, you drive a hard bargain!" Can you guess the meaning? Alright.
"Drive a hard bargain" is when you try to discount the price hard. Alright. So let's practice this expression together. Please repeat after me. "drive a hard bargain" "drive a hard bargain" Great!
Now let's practice the conversation together. I will say one line and you repeat after me. Are you ready? A: "I'll give you these shoes for a discount price of $60." Great. B: "Oh that's too high." Great. A: "OK. How about $55?" B: "I can pay 50." Good. A says, "Oh, you drive a hard bargain!" Great. Now you know the meaning of "drive a hard bargain."
So, the next time you are trying to get a discount and someone is being difficult with the price, you can say, "you drive a hard bargain." Alright.
