Jason Chen, a 2012 graduate of the MIT Leaders for Global Operations program, talks about an elective engineering course in Internal Combustion Engines (2.61) he took in his final semester at MIT. The course, a core graduate requirement of Course 2 (Mechanical Engineering), gave Jason an appreciation for the entire system of the engine, from flame propagation to metallurgy to design for manufacturing.
Jason Chen, LGO '12, explains how an MIT course on combustion engines taught him to appreciate the world in a more deep and technical way.

There is no underestimating the power and impact of MIT's coursework. In his final semester at MIT, Chen indulged his interest in engines by taking the Internal Combustion Engine class. As Chen explains, he got much more than he bargained for from the course. In the end, he gained an appreciation for the entire system of the engine and he took away an appreciation of working with technology that he will utilize throughout his career.
