When it comes to working with shoulder pain you can safely say there is a problem withe Pec Minor being over active and causing all sorts of trouble. Both Pectoralis Minor & Pectoralis Major are very powerful chest muscles that provide the bulk of the power in all pushing movements, such as push ups and bench press for example. Not to mention everyday tasks completed at home or at work, these muscles are very important.
But when they become short and tight in particular Pec Minor they begin to play havoc with how our scapula functions and how well our arm centers itself within the ball and socket.
The Pec Minor is known as a "Tonic" muscle meaning it has a tendency to become hyperactive and overwork, basically steal the workload from other muscles such as serratus anterior. This muscle imbalance sets you up for postural problems like winging scapula and eventually injuries like rotator cuff tears or shoulder impingement.
