Welcome rain is set to fall on parts of the eastern inland and thunderstorms are forecast for drought affected parts of New South Wales this week.
The system will move to the state's north-west later this week before moving offshore.
Rainfall totals of 50mm are likely to fall in towns including Wagga, Griffith, Albury and Cobar.
The deluge will also hit the nation's capital with Canberra set to receive at least 40-100 millimetres of rain this week.
