This week, we continue our Defining Human-Animal Studies video series with a video by Cynthia Chandler, who has explained the term Animal-Assisted Therapy. Dr. Cynthia K. Chandler is a professor in the Department of Counseling and Higher Education at the University of North Texas. She has been active in animal assisted therapy since 1999. For her work in the field of animal assisted therapy Dr. Chandler received the 2016 Professional Development Award from the American Counseling Association, and the 2009 Thelma Duffey Vision and Innovation Award from the Association for Creativity in Counseling. Additionally, she received in 2006 the Pet Partners Beyond Limits Award for Instructor and Evaluator along with her dogs Rusty and Dolly. Dr. Chandler is author of the landmark book titled Animal Assisted Therapy in Counseling.
