Footage of Brigadier Akwasi Amankwa Afrifa giving a speech in Kumasi at the ceremony in which he was awarded the title of Okatakyie, a rare military honour bestowed by the Ashantehene for exceptional valour.
Afrifa, who was then retiring from his role as Chairman of the Presidential Commission and from the Ghana Army, is wearing the chain which was put around his neck by the Ashantehene, Opoku Ware II.
Present at the ceremony were the Ghanaian Prime Minister Dr. Kofi Busia, Sam Owusu, the Minister for External Affairs and future President John Kufuor, the Deputy-Foreign Minister.
The ceremony took place in August 1970.
