KINGSTON, Jamaica - Asafa Powell, former 100-meter world record holder, participated in his child's sports day at an undisclosed location in Kingston. Powell, who took to social media to share his experience, revealed to his followers that he had made a promise to only use 30% of his speed during the event.
In a lighthearted post, Powell, 39, shared a picture of himself at the event alongside the caption, "made a promise to only use 30% of my speed 👀😀." The athlete, who retired from international competition in 2019, seemed to have enjoyed the experience, writing, "had a great day my first parents race, proud of team yellow house."
Powell's participation in his child's sports day is similar to that of fellow Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who also took part in her child's event last month. Fraser-Pryce, a five-time world champion, and two-time Olympic gold medalist, competed in a 100-meter race at her son's school in Kingston.
The involvement of high-profile athletes like Powell and Fraser-Pryce in their children's sports day events is a reminder of the importance of parental involvement in sports and the positive impact it can have on children's development.
