Welcome to Bowlers Paradise!
When they announced this piece, I was just, surprised. I thought they hit the peak with the NEX cover which was basically unusable for me, but storm is claiming that the all new EVO solid is even stronger. To go along with that, this piece is powered inside by the all new and wildly strong super coil core.
I didn’t think the layout would matter as this much strength and I just don’t ever seem work together, but to give it the best chance we could, we went with a 5.24 x 4 x 4 2LS layout, the same layout that we put on the hammer envy which worked much better than I expected it too.
And on the lanes, I was, well I was stunned. This house shot was laid down the day before throwing these shots, but the DNA got through it well and actually looked great. The colors already reminded me of it, but the shape on the lane brought it home in that this piece is an asymmetric phaze 2 to my eye. It takes what worked so well in that piece and just adds a bit more definition to the hook and roll phases on the way to the pins.
The Supercoil core, even though it has a significant amount of asymmetry, didn’t feel like it would lock up every time, but would if I wanted it too. I could also circle the DNA around the pattern and still have good continuation through the pins, something that is rare out of solid asyms.
On the downside, this amount of cover is kind of ridiculous and the amount of transition this lane went through was significant. If you decide to bust out this bad boy during your Thursday night league or in Reno for nationals, your teammates might have something to say about it until the cover shines up and tames out a bit.
So with that, here’s my recommendations on types of bowlers that I think would match up well with this piece. The first is those that loved the phaze 2. I know, that is a LOT of people, but it really is just a little bit more than that shape. If you’re a tournament bowler, having both of those in the bag will give you two great options to combat the fresh. The second is players with a lot of axis rotation. Typically asyms are more unpredictable for that type of game, but this pairing of core and cover will blend that out and open up a new world of opportunity.
You’ve always had lots of deoxyribonucleic acid in your veins, but if you ready for better scores, maybe it's time for some of Storm’s DNA in you bag.
