One way to describe the interior design principles is to think of them as reminders on what we need to include to create a design that is both beautiful and functional. In this video you'll learn about the six design principles of balance, contrast, harmony, emphasis, rhythm, and scale and proportion, and see examples of how each principle of design is used in the interior design of a room. From the very beginning of the design process we use each of these principles of interior design to help us create a successful design. And when we want to find out why a room or area of a room just doesn't seem to be working, the principles of design can help us identify problems and which design principle will help us find a solution. For example, if one area of a room looks off balance, that's where we can turn to the principle of balance or emphasis to help us create a more balanced and harmonious design. The interior design principles along with the elements of interior design, really are an essential part of understanding interior design.
