Membranous nephropathy is one of the causes of nephrotic syndrome that is characterized by thickening of basement membrane with subepithelial immune complex deposits.
These subepithelial immune complexes result in formation of membrane attack complex that damages the glomerulus and causes leakage of protein and ultimately nephrotic syndrome.
