The knife pleat is considered to be the most basic pleat. You create a fold in the fabric at a predetermined width, and press in one direction on the right side of the fabric. Unlike other types of pleats, knife pleats always travel in a gang. Just one or two would be considered more a tuck than a pleat. Because you are working in multiples, you need to mark your fabric very accurately.
First thing you want to do is make sure you’ve bought enough fabric! There are two types of knife-pleated skirts you can make, one with deep pleats and one with shallow pleats. Deep pleats look nicer than shallow pleats.
Formula on How to Make Knife Pleated Skirt:
Waist ÷ 2
1/2 Waist Measurement ÷ Number of Pleats (6, 7, 8, 9, 10)
Folds:
Shallow Folds - 1", 1 1/2", 2", 2 1/2", 3" j 3 1/2"
Deep Folds - 4", 4 1/2", 5", 5 1/2", 6", 6 1/2", 7", 7 1/2" & 8"
I hope you will learn to make your own knife pleated skirt.
