This is in part 2 of our videos about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia, also called Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and other names. I have had CFS/FM most of my life and here’s what I do to try to control it.

Here are some of the points we discuss in this video:
0:13 When we first got married, Mike didn’t really understand how serious my chronic illness was.
0:39 Mike’s experience realizing what chronically ill really meant.
2:49 Tawra: When we got to Idaho where it was cooler and the humidity was low, I was able to perk up a little bit.
2:58 Mike: I didn’t really recognize until we had been married 10-12 years how to really recognize when Tawra was sick.
4:10 Mike: I started to recognize that when Tawra has a Chronic Fatigue Syndrome flare, she gets really pale and when that happens, the Alka-Seltzer helps. Tawra talks about Alka-Seltzer.
5:10 So with the CFS, Tawra will be pale and laying around with a strange expression on her face like she’s not present at all.
5:31 What Fibromyalgia looks like
6:11 The Fibromyalgia is a muscle problem so rubbing helps a lot.
6:23 Restless leg syndrome.
6:48 Learning to distinguish between the CFS and the Fibromyalgia
6:58 My tips to what I use to help me feel better.
7:30 Most recently, I spent $10,000 going to a functional medicine doctor. He helped some but I don’t know if it was worth the money.
8:12 For Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, the thing that helps me the most is sleep. The 3 most important things to keep CFS under control are are sleep, staying away from stress and not exercising too heavily.
8:34 It’s hard because getting sleep is difficult when you’re ill.
8:47 I tried prescription sleeping medications and antidepressants, but the side effects were completely intolerable so I stay away from them. Mike had to tell me to stop because I didn’t realize how bad I was.
9:26 I don’t use antidepressants but they do help some people.
9:40 I take NADH, an amino acid.
11:33 Things that help my Fibromyalgia.
12:43 About sleep and what I’ve tried to help me sleep better
16:03 Pain medications - I mostly use over the counter pain medications.
17:29 Stretching helps my Fibromyalgia. Light exercise also helps, but too much exercise inflames my CFS.
20:54 Neuromuscular massage
22:10 Hot baths. I take a hot bath in Epsom Salts almost every day.
23:30 Sit with a heating pad at night.
24:58 I live in a cool, dry climate. Heat and humidity make me a lot worse.
27:00 My supplements.
30:57 I found out I had major food sensitivities
33:40 Noise and lights really aggravate my nervous system.
