Kazakh instrumental art team, Kurmangazy orchestra pleased the Astana audience with the melodies of the great steppe. The orchestra’s repertoire includes nearly 4,000 works that are performed by more than 80 renowned musicians. The legendary orchestra is touring as part of the EXPO 2017. This is the 13th concert from ‘Melodies of the Steppe” cycle.
ZHANAS BEKENTUROV, CONDUCTOR, KURMANGAZY ORCHESTRA:
- Our orchestra has a history. We introduce to the audience the Kazakh national art; we share the culture of our ancestors. We carefully select the compositions for every performance. Our repertoire includes classical, modern and folk melodies. The orchestra tonight performed instrumental Kazak classical arrangements, along with the masterpieces of folk art and music by the European and Russian composers.

- The orchestra’s artistry and the contribution it makes in the Kazakh culture are enormous. The orchestra has a special role and is truly unique. It represents our instrumental art. Every time I come to their concert I admire them.
Kurmangazy orchestra was founded over 80 years ago. It was founded by famous composer Akhmet Zhubanov. The orchestra received many international awards and honorary titles. Many renowned artists such as Roza Baglanova, Lyudmila Zykina, Bibigul Tulegenova and Alibek Dnishev performed in the orchestra in different years.
