South Korean, Japanese and Chinese leaders on May 27 called for greater cooperation in a rare three-way summit for the first time in over four years. The meeting came as the leaders of the three countries sought to revive trade and security dialogues hampered by global tensions. The summit comes as Beijing seeks to counteract US efforts to work closely with Tokyo and Seoul, two major American allies in the Asia-Pacific region. The meeting also came as the nuclear-armed North Korea announced plans to put another spy satellite into the orbit.
