France’s municipal elections are going ahead despite the recent lockdown and increasing number of coronavirus cases in the nation.
President Emmanuel Macron insisted polling day go ahead, insisting public life must continue amid the global pandemic.
The virus continues to spread across Europe with the number of deaths in Spain more than doubling in the past 24 hours to 288 deaths with nearly 8,000 people infected.
The European Union encouraged countries to respond to the virus in unity, however most counties have implemented independent defence strategies.
