Physiotherapist at Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Australia showing some simple exercises you can do at home to strengthen the serratus anterior.
The serratus anterior is responsible for holding the shoulder blades against the rib cage. It is also an important muscle for shoulder movements such as abduction and flexion.
Weakness in this muscle can cause "scapular winging", where the shoulder blade protrudes from your back.
Push Up Plus is a great exercise to help strengthen your serratus anterior. This video shows you how to perform the exercise.
Aim for 5-10 second holds for each repetition. 10 repetitions per day is ideal.
