This presentation focuses on the responses of indigenous communities to the genocide in Guatemala (1980-1982). I argue that indigenous communities, during the 1980s, articulated a historical perspective called 500 years. This perspective highlights indigenous views of activism which require the historical recognition of colonial relations in the country.
