This is the option I chose to do a final flush and engine warmup so I could change the oil on my outboard. I never liked the idea of running the motor on Muffs when working on the boat by myself. There is always the possibility of them slipping off a little or all the way and the engine overheating.
When I got my new boat (new to me anyway) last year, I did not like how the motor ran on the muffs. The water took a while to come out of the telltale and it was not flowing as smoothly or strong as it does when it is actually in the water.
I was looking for alternatives and I was torn between a carry barrel or the rainwater collection bag I found on Amazon. I decided on the bag from Amazon because I could easily store it and I ordered it. It arrived in a few days and I was able to use it to run the motor one last time, run some salt away through it and get the oil warmed up so that could be changed.
When I turned the motor off, it took about 10 minutes for the water to drain enough for me to remove the bag and I started on the oil change.
I know it is a pricier option than just running on the muffs but the piece of mind is worth it!
