This video from OMG (One Minute Geography) Revision looks at how international AID in Nigeria. International aid is help, assistance or resources given from one country or organisation to another country. For example, the USA provides Nigeria with AID to try and reduce the spread of HIV whereas the World Bank has provided half a billion dollars in order to help businesses develop in Nigeria. AID can have positive impacts on a country’s level of development; however, corruption can mean that it does not end up benefitting people who have the biggest need and may end up being diverted to the military. In order to revise this topic, you need to know what NEE receives AID (Nigeria) and the countries (USA), International Organisations (World Bank) and NGO (charities such as Action Aid) that provide AID to Nigeria. An evaluative approach is needed when considering international Aid – yes, it does help however corruption and diversion of funds mean that it does not always end up where it is needed.
