Nestled between the largest lake in the world and the tallest mountains in the Middle East lies one of the planet's oldest forests. For millions of years, the Hyrcanian Forests have survived ice ages, retreating during colder periods and expanding when the climate warmed. Within the green sanctuaries are about 180 bird species, 60 species of mammals and 3000 types of plants.
