Michele and I designed, permitted, and built our new home in 2002-2003. The first picture shows the original one-story house. Based on the craftsman style details of Gustav Stickly, the founder of the American Craftsman style and movement, we used materials traditional to these early American homes, and sourced them locally wherever possible, including 14 tons of rock from Central California. I performed the design, engineering, all rough structural and electrical, and all trim work including finish woodwork, finish plumbing and electrical, all rock and tile work, and all flooring. Materials included white oak, cherry, natural slate, granite, porcelain, cedar, and of course Douglas Fir for all exposed beams and corbels. Michele did the interior design including the kitchen and bathroom details, painting, and furnishings.
