Short comparative test between 2 very good powerful routers using 6, 8 and 12mm diam. bits.

Both always deliver enough power, even at low rpm speed in very hard wood with a high or large diameter bit.
Keep in mind that large diameter bits absolutly need a variable speed (in fact low speed) to prevent wood burning. These 2 routers have a variable speed system which also provide a strict constant speed control.

RP2300 - 2300w - 70mm plunge - LED light - 9000-22000 RPM
It is more suitable for under table use thanks to the lock-on switch.
NB : it is the variable speed version of the Makita RP1800.

3612C - 1650W - 60mm plunge - electric brake - 9000-23000 RPM
Electric brake is really usefull particularly when using high speeds or big diameter or heavy bits.
Note that the electric brake is effective only with the main switch, using a secondary on/off switch (under table use) disables the electric brake.
NB : it is the variable speed version of the Makita 3612.

The already aged 3612C is still a very good choice as it is extraordinary reliable and robust. Story goes that it works fine in unusual outdoor conditions of tropical rain, polar cold etc.
