Do you really need 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight per day to build muscle?
This is a consistent meme in the fitness industry.
I made a video recommending that people shoot for this number and got a bit of push back.
Many sources suggest that you only need a 1g per pound of lean body mass, ie) muscle tissue. Which is probably more like 0,7-0,8g per lb of bodyweight.
You also need to probably account for water weight and the weight of your skeleton.
So all things considered, if you shoot for a high protein diet, it’s unlikely to be a limiting factor in building muscle. So I would still advocate for a high protein diet, just maybe not as much as 1g per lb of bodyweight.
