Agriculture Minister Murray Watt says the Albanese government has raised the issue of Sky News journalist Cheng Lei's treatment at a media conference on Monday with China.
It comes as footage emerged of Ms Lei being body blocked by Chinese diplomats while she attempted to report on the joint press conference between Mr Albanese and China’s Premier Li Qiang on Monday.
“It’s not the way that people should be behaving in Australia and particularly in our parliament,” Mr Watt said.
“We made the point yesterday in the meeting with the Chinese Premier that one of the things Australians cherish is our free press our democracy.
“So people should be able to operate in parliament of all places in freedom and that position has been conveyed very strongly to the Chinese government.”
