Conceptual understanding is necessary to apply knowledge and skills in novel contexts. In a changing world, it is essential to prepare students for transfer. In this session, participants will learn about the theory and practice of teaching knowledge and skills for conceptual understanding. Participants will acquire teaching strategies promoting this level of understanding, including developing concepts, mapping concepts, and applying concepts in different contexts. These strategies will develop students' ability to learn complex content and their flexibility in using it.
