With the 21st pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins selected Chop Robinson (Edge, Penn St)!
Chop Robinson brings unbelievable athleticism to the edge rusher position with his quick burst off the snap and his unique ability to bend around the edge. Robinson ran a 4.48 at the NFL Combine and was seen as one of the most explosive edge rushers in the 2024 NFL Draft. You would have liked to see more production in regards to his sack totals while at Penn State, however the potential is there and it’s now the job of new defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver to help maximize that potential.
The Miami Dolphins are now relatively loaded at edge rusher as Chop Robinson joins Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb and Shaq Barrett. With both Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb rehabbing season-ending injuries, the Dolphins may need to call on Chop Robinson early on in the 2024 NFL season. While both Brian Thomas and Xavier Worthy were still on the clock, and with the infatuation Mike McDaniel has for speed, the selection of Robinson may have been a bit of a surprise to NFL Draft analysts.
Additional 2024 NFL Draft targets the Miami Dolphins passed on in favor of Chop Robinson included Graham Barton, Jackson Powers-Johnson, Johnny Newton and Cooper DeJean. The Dolphins nearly had a chance of selecting Troy Fautanu, however he was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the No. 20 overall selection.
Prior to the Miami Dolphins selection of Chop Robinson, picks No. 13 through 20 featured numerous Dolphins draft targets including Brock Bowers, Troy Fautanu, Laiatu Latu, Jared Verse and Byron Murphy. This run of selections was brutal following the selection of six quarterbacks in the first 12 picks of the draft.
