More than two dozen COVID-19 testing clinics have been temporarily closed in Sydney as providers struggle to keep up with sustained high demand amid ongoing rapid testing shortages.
In Sydney – 28 privately run PCR testing clinics have closed “until further notice” as staff work to clear a backlog of tests.
Sky News Australia discussed the issue with 4Cyte Pathology Medical Director Dr Kate Harris.
4Cyte Pathology operates clinics across NSW, Queensland and Victoria and has been managing a large bulk of the testing and laboratory work.
"At the moment ... we've reduced the amount of clinics that are open in an attempt to really sort of control the people who are coming for testing," Dr Harris told Sky News Australia.
"So obviously the people who need to be tested are positive rapid antigen, people who are symptomatic and overseas travellers."
