Veteran of drag racing John Force, 75, was admitted to the hospital after an extremely frightening collision during an NHRA race meeting in Virginia.
Force, who is well-known for his remarkable nearly 50-year career that includes his most recent 157th NHRA race victory, was involved in a spectacular accident as he approached the finish line at around 487 km/h.
His 10,000 horsepower behemoth of a car had a catastrophic engine failure that sent it flying across the circuit, slamming into the left wall, hitting the right-side wall, and coming to a stop in the middle of the track.
Force was able to speak with the emergency personnel on the spot and stayed conscious despite the severity of the collision. After being quickly taken to a local hospital, he was admitted to the intensive care unit and given more time to be assessed.
