As stated in the video, I was doing some deer scouting and squirrel hunting and walked upon this deer. I record right way and the footage starts.
My first personal interaction with a deer with what I suspect to be CWD. Middle part of the video I lost my train of thought due to adrenaline but I knew something was wrong. I’ve hunted in this area of public land for the last 12-15 years and this is the first deer I’ve seen with any illness like this. It was sad to see, I hope it isn’t impacting too many of the deer in the area.

Update:
IowaDNR watched my video, this was their response.
“We believe that this deer may be suffering from a brain worm or other traumatic brain injury, which often causes behavioral abnormalities such as this. We don't believe it's CWD.
We see the deer circle to the left with a high-stepping, jerky gait, which is pretty characteristic of a central nervous system abnormality. The "foaming" at the mouth is likely due to nausea and/or pain (bruxism- teeth grinding). She is generally weak (ataxic) and uncoordinated, but is still in good body condition, which reflects a rapid onset of clinical signs. This is not consistent with the slow, progressive onset of CWD.
Her condition is worsened by adding a danger stimulus, which she cannot appropriately respond to by running away (though she tries early in the video).
Update: 10/20/20
I went back the following week and the deer was dead and already only a pile of bones. It was in the same general area along the tall grass line. I did call the DNR officer for the area and left a message but did not receive any response. I was shocked and didn’t immediately dispatch of the animal but recognize now that I should have. As this was my first time personally witnessing this, I know next time to immediately dispatch the animal to stop the chances of spreading CWD. Thanks for watching, please
