Former deputy prime minister John Anderson has spoken with Sky News about his intention to return to politics, saying it is a move which will “surprise many people”.
Mr Anderson told Sky News host Chris Kenny he is aiming to run for Senate at the next federal election with the Nationals but is not seeking to be leader of the party.
“I feel that I don’t want to die wondering whether I could have helped make another contribution,” he said.
“I can’t be a leader again, and I don’t seek to be, I seek to take a place in the Senate if the party thinks I can make a contribution.”
